Is Your Metabolism a Cheetah or a Snail?
Your metabolism: Fast as a cheetah or slow as …?
a guest article by Dr. Stephanie Cremers (nutritionist)
We are all born as fast cheetahs! Our metabolism is running at full speed, we are active and consume a lot of energy accordingly. The metabolism ensures that our bodily functions are kept running, that we can build muscle mass and that our body is adequately supplied with energy.
As we get older, our habits usually change. We move less, do not eat a balanced diet and our metabolism is more and more like a snail. If our body does not get enough of what it really needs, it reduces all metabolic processes. Many people do not notice this creeping process, as our body can compensate for this condition quite well. With a metabolic rate reduced to 60%, our body can still maintain necessary functions and we don’t even notice it. But: Would you drive your car out of the garage without hesitation if it only had 60% of its power?
The good news is that our metabolism is flexible in both directions. We can turn our snail engine back into a cheetah engine at any time. Imagine how you feel when your metabolism has the performance of a cheetah again. To get the metabolism going again, only a few things are necessary that you can easily implement in your everyday life.
